All Tricks - Poem

I am capable of
more than this:

A flash of
scales, silvery in
the morninglight
is not the only sleight
my hand knows.

She is such a
decadent artifice, and
my God
the body
dancing revolted
in the mirrored hall.

Believe it
all tricks anyway, but

I'm going to fail
and it's going to be more true
than anything you've done.

the last line is a triumphant success, succeeding as poetry, succeeding as philosophy, despite the failure of the narrator.
